5 Tips for Moving into your First House

Having a checklist is important for when moving. We understand how hard it can be juggling between packing, organizing, and tying that with your day-to-day life and other responsibilities. So to help take some pressure off your mind, here is a list of five important things you must consider when moving into a new space.

1. Plan Early

To prevent stress and burnout, planning will save you time and energy. Creating a checklist of everything that needs to be completed before moving day can be helpful. For example:

  • Reaching out to gas, internet, water, and electric companies.
  • Scheduling or renting a moving truck.
  • Collecting packing supplies like boxes and tape etc.
  • Updating your address

2. Declutter!

To make space, minimize what you have. If you have hoarder tendencies, go through the things you have and only keep what you need not what you want or think you will need. Making space in your home will bring clarity to your mind.

  • Donate clothes you don’t like or no longer wear or fit.
  • Consider what furniture will complement your home.
  • Throw out or shred any unnecessary documents you no longer need.

3. Organize Your Boxes

  • Even if you haven’t started packing yet, label each box by room with a description.
  • Kitchen – Pots & Pans
  • Closet – Jackets & Coats
  • Bathroom – Skin & Hair Care

Also, organize the boxes with colored tape or markers. So you and the movers know which boxes belong in each room.

4. Pack a “Need” Box

When you move in the first night, pack a box of everything you need aka use daily. Such as:

  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, body soap, etc.)
  • Clothes (undergarments, work clothes, pajamas, etc.)
  • Kitchen supplies (Utensils, paper plates, etc.)
  • Pillows, blankets, towels, etc.
  • Medications
  • Entertainment (books, laptop, crochet materials, etc.)

5. Lastly, Pray!

Sharing words of affirmation over yourself and your new home can help bring good energy, warmth, abundance, and love into your space. Recite these words in your heart:

  •  I love how freeing my home is
  • I will have ever that I need
  • I am going into this place with good intentions
  • This is my resting place
  • I am thankful that their place will protect me from harm
  • I appreciate how there will be enough room for food and water

How far are you in your moving process?

Let your mind wander,
